There are now hundreds of AI customer service agents that you can use for your website, store, and small business. But not all of them work—some are locked behind demos and others are built for Fortune 500 companies.
Thankfully, I tested all of them and found the five best AI customer service agents that you can get up and running fast, without much effort, and that just plain work.
AI agents that actually DO things, not just chat.

Build AI customer service agents that take action. They can update subscriptions, change addresses, and connect to your tools like Stripe and Salesforce.
Chatbase has many features, but the one we're focused on is the customer service agent. It does a great job of making its UI simple and allows you to seamlessly set up your chatbot in minutes.

Now Chatbase works best when you have more content. So upgrading is an obvious choice. For the free plan, you can only scan 10 pages and your bot will answer based on those.
You can check exactly what your bot understands and edit it any way you wish. This is how your bot knows what it needs to answer when someone asks you.

Chatbase makes it very easy for you to integrate it on your website along with tons of other options like WordPress, WhatsApp, Messenger, and even Instagram.

The customization goes one step further with the ability to select the model that will be doing the talking. As far as I've been able to see, ChatGPT does the best job in terms of customer support. They answer questions seamlessly, allowing you to have peace of mind that the answers will be answered correctly and the credits used are worth it.

The actions section is robust, from connecting directly to Stripe, plus custom actions that are server-side or client-side. Allow it to connect to a database and much more. The options are endless with actions, which is why it's the best customer support agent out there.

You can connect to various accounts, such as Cal, Calendly, and even create custom forms that collect leads for you. With the ability to customize it down to what the URL looks like when a user requests something. The perfect co-pilot to help you get users' questions answered without making your process change.
Pricing: Pricing is fair compared to the others on this list. At $40 you can get 2,000 messages a month + 5 actions under 1 AI agent. Most users won't need more than the $40 plan because your questions will be specific and analyze your entire page.

Fin AI by Intercom does a great job of understanding your need in customer service agents. The chatbot answers questions quickly and efficiently, and they have built-in complex flows you can customize to make the chatbot do everything you need. Saving your team hours a day of work.
You can really see the detail put into the application just when you first load in your information. You are able to copy all information over in seconds with the chatbot understanding your entire site in seconds.
You can sync your content from anything—a website, Zendesk, a document, custom answers, and so much more. They really go above and beyond in the learning part of the chatbot, making it easy for you to see why they do so well.

The guidance section is well thought out, allowing you to apply tons of rules and filters to your chatbot. Like this handover and escalation that was a prebuilt template—a simple add and your chatbot will notice when users are frustrated and it will route the user to a human.

You get a good preview window of what exactly the chatbot will respond. Which is a nice little feature for testing. You don't have to be in a live environment and can test right in the dashboard. I enjoyed testing this with my personal website. It brought in all pages on my website which allow it to really study my content.
They cover everything in terms of where you can publish it and more. You can publish to the web, along with email, and even phone.

This means you set up your agent once and it can be added to all channels. Making it perfect for small business, SaaS founders, and really anyone looking to integrate into one or all 3 of these channels.

Pricing: Fin pricing is a bit confusing when you take a first look at it, but it breaks down into two real parts.
First, they charge you 99 cents for a resolution. What is considered a resolution?
If any of those two are met, you get charged. You also have to figure out all the different areas that they service and what ones add extra fees to it.
It seems you are fine with the basic, but they do have even more advanced layers or add-ons.
If you are in the e-commerce space, then Gorgias is the best you can get for AI customer service chatbots. They are the top player in the space and for good reason. They connect to all major platforms like Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, and more.
When you create your account, they ask you what platform you're looking to support, making it super easy to niche down to the areas that you need to focus on.

The process is seamless. I don't own a Shopify store, so I created a dummy account to test out the chatbot features and I am impressed.

Not only do they make it very simple to create, since they are connected directly into the app store, they already have all the knowledge they need from your site and don't need to download anything new from you.
The process was fast, and customization was minimal, but in terms of a customer service AI chatbot, it was exactly what was needed. The integration took me only 2 minutes, allowing me to go live in a matter of seconds.

You can then customize the chatbot to your liking. As you can see in the example above, I made it ask for the user's email quickly so I could get an alert to my email that someone was looking for an answer. You can customize this to your liking and allow AI to answer a bulk of the questions as well.

They have even built-in support flows for orders, returns, and shipping-related items. Making it easy to get support ready on the ground for anything that may come up.
They are building for the simple use cases that are needed in retail shopping. Customer issues that users on your site have had in the past. This allows you to focus on acquiring more customers and the AI agent will answer all the repetitive questions you get asked.
Now to the main selling point for this AI customer service bot. You can use its AI Agent mode to really just take over your entire workflow.

In Shopify, you have specific triggers for all users that your AI Agent can handle. This is a game-changer for anyone looking to sell or provide discounts to their users in real time. Allowing you to get more sales with quick questions that people may have.

Pricing: Pricing for Gorgias comes in a few different areas. For the AI Agent shown above, it costs $40/month. Which I think is a steal if you think about it. This AI Agent is your sales person, customer support all in one for only $40/month. You get 2-3 sales a month from that, you are making more than paying for it. Plus it works 24/7.
The other options they have are the helpdesk features at $360/month. Which is great for bigger teams looking to have full how-to guides, help guides, etc. on their website that AI can just share with the users instantly.
If you are running an e-commerce store, then Gorgias is a must-have. The pricing models are some of the best I have seen. Plus you are getting a free agent that if they convert 5-10 sales a month, depending on your product, you could do that.
This plan also comes with the automations and involves anytime a ticket is created, and your AI agent or others does a task inside of it. For example, with how the agent works, we can see what tickets it hasn't worked on along with the ones it has and if they were really needed to eat.
If you are in e-commerce, there is really no other better one than Gorgias.
Zoho Desk is a powerful customer service tool, and now with their chatbot integration, it is bringing it to a new level. Other guides have ranked this number one on their list, but for me, I was very confused at where everything was.
They have a ton of features including CRM, Marketing, Sales, Analytics, so it's very hard to find the actual "customer support agent" section. Making it a good fit for users already using Zoho for other things.

Once you find the agent, they are very easy to set up. You can add in what channels you want the agent to be using, from email to instant messaging. They cover all socials. You can see how this would become very detailed if you need.
The other feature I like is you can have agents focus on only 1 type of item. For example, you can make one agent focus solely on email and provide extensive detail to allow that agent to cover everything that needs to be done with email.
You can then take your chatbot and customize it more by adding:

All can be customized to your liking to make sure you never miss anyone coming to your site or tickets.
They even have a custom flow that can help with your entire customer journey.

As I mentioned before, this is overkill for most users, but for those who are looking for extensive customization, it may be for you.
I wasn't able to find anything on training models like the other sites, where it automatically trains based on your information. This is a significant drawback and will require a considerable amount of time to customize everything.
I didn't do much testing with integrating outside the Zoho network, but I have heard that it's not the easiest to do and you will have issues if you are using other third parties for other parts of your AI customer service agents.
All of the AI Customer Service Agents have different use cases, so you need to ensure that they are all on the same type of payment structure. But overall, they all work very well. If we had to pick one, we would go with Chatbase as it's the easiest to use and seems to have the best responses from what it studies.
If you are in the e-commerce space, then Gorgias is a no-brainer, and you shouldn't use any other one than them.
