Compare the 6 best AI detectors for 2026. Tested reviews of Copyleaks, Winston AI, GPTZero, and more. Find the perfect tool to detect AI-generated content.

I have been writing a lot of content recently, and I've found myself questioning if my content would pass in AI detector models. So I started up my laptop, found the 15 best AI detectors recommended by Google, ChatGPT, and Gemini, and tested each one.
The crazy part is that only 6 made the list because the detection was so bad it wasn't even worth adding in. It seems that with the newer models coming out what seems like every week, it makes it very hard for some of these companies to keep up.
With that being said, I did find 6 very solid AI detectors that could determine my AI-generated sample vs my personal writing sample.
If you are interested in the actual wording of both, you can check out this Google Doc for what was used.
Let's get started:
Here are the 6 best AI detectors from personal uses to enterprise level.
Copyleaks prides itself in finding AI-generated content. Not only do they love proving to people that it is generated by AI, but they are also good at it. They are number #1 on the list for a reason, and my test AI-generated content using Claude 4.1 Opus was caught.

CopyLeaks is considered the best for enterprise as well because they just have so much data that they can catch AI-generated content everywhere.
You can check up to 25,000 words before being required to login/pay, which is a nice feature for making sure the content is accurate. We tested with one work as I mentioned above by Claude. The results turned out good—it could detect that it was AI-generated.

Now they don't only do AI content checks. They also offer many other features, making them the best enterprise solution because they have a dedicated API you can connect to and run your content through their check. Making it a good solution for many big firms.

The AI Detector is the selling point, but they also have Text moderation, Plagiarism checker, Grammar checker, LMS integration, Google Docs Add-on, and API integration.
Out of all the features that I listed above, the ones that caught my eye are the API integration and the Browser Extension.
These are great tools for users who are always on email, looking over documents, etc., because you can skip over any AI reply or cold email you would get instantly.

I even tested the AI detector with my own personal newsletter issue (that I know I wrote 100% myself) and it passed with flying colors.
If you are looking for a good AI detection service that covers everything you would need for any use case, CopyLeaks is for you.
They cover everything you would need in an AI detection and cover multiple languages, which is perfect for many small to big teams.

Winston AI is second on the list. They cover the standard in AI detection with Plagiarism checker, grammar checks, and enterprise API.
What makes them stand out different from other services is that they offer a website certification along with an AI image detector to determine if the person's image is real or fake.
I went to see how good the AI Detection was with the two samples I have been using. One from my newsletter and another from a Claude Opus 4.1 article about Golden Doodles.
Here are the results of the newsletter article.

You see, I got a 100% human score, which means it has been determined based on my writing that… I in fact wrote this article. So it passed this test.
Now to see how it does with the AI-generated content.

It could determine it easily!
So the AI detection is excellent… If you are looking for anything other than the AI Detection, it requires an upgrade, which will cost you $10/month (paid yearly) or $18/month.

You can understand everything happening in AI detection, along with having full access to all featured items. They provide you with even writing feedback to look less like AI-generated content.
I went ahead and tested the website scan, which gives you certification for your website. Now my website, which I've built, uses a decent amount of AI-generated content along with human-written content.

It was able to determine all of my articles that were AI-generated content. Which is a nice little feature because now you can update them for SEO and for Google, so you are ranking better without AI-generated content.
This is a nice feature, and when you upgrade, you can get certified. The Human-1+ certification allows you to prove that your site is not AI-generated content.
They provide you with a ton of integrations that will sync directly with your Winston account.

They also have features like the grammar checker and a text comparer.
The image scanner is a good feature, allowing you to verify if an image is real or not. It costs 300 credits, which is good for not only pictures but also handwriting from documents. So you can really do anything you need.

Overall, Winston is a good AI detector that has good features and a nice AI image detector as well. If you are looking for more academic use cases, this may be the best one for you.
Originality is a popular AI detector for SEO and content markets. You can combine AI and plagiarism checks seamlessly, doing both at the same time. They provide you with a holistic content score, and you can get a few tests before you log into your account.
You can also have an API connection to use them directly in whatever product you need. The good thing about checking for content is that you can review multiple options simultaneously, allowing you to get everything done at once.

They don't have a very reasonable free plan. If you want to do anything with them, you will need to upgrade to the paid plans.

I find it interesting that they offer you a pay-as-you-go plan, which gives you 3,000 credits. Perfect for someone who is looking to do a few one-off tests. Monthly comes in at $14.95, and enterprise is at $179/month.
One feature not present in the others on this list is a bulk uploader, which allows you to upload multiple files at once and review all the content. There have been reviews of higher than normal false positives resulting in bad results for its users.
GPTZero is the most popular AI detectors among education, as you are able to spin up more advanced models that can detect more AI-generated content at the highest levels. So if you are someone who is grading lots of papers, this is the perfect detector for you.
The onboarding flow makes it very straightforward at what you are looking to get out of this and how they can help you.

Once inside, you are met with a well-designed dashboard and solid features to help you in any situation for AI detection. You can even spin up the AI essay mode that allows you to check multiple features like AP scan and more.

This AI Grading assistant is really the selling point of GPTZero because they can detect all different types of writing assessments, making it a clear winner for any professor or teacher.
When you are analyzing text, they don't just give you a score and call it a day—they give you a full overview. They start with high-level details on what they found.

They can then go into more detail of each section and determine exactly what is happening with the cool explain feature. This feature allows you to analyze and understand what exactly they were looking at that triggered the AI detection.

This is both in the scan section along with the AI educational section we mentioned before. They really explain what the issue is and what they found from it.
Here is the AI detection on my newsletter issue we have been using in previous products on this list.

They were able to see that my content wasn't AI-generated. So they passed our test. They have some other features that include along with tons of integrations like Google Docs, Zapier and even API access.

They have a good free plan (10,000 words) and the most popular plan is $23/month for 200k words. Right in line with other AI detectors, but GPTZero only focuses on the AI detection and doesn't have any of the other add-ons that some of the others on the list have. But if you are an educator, this is built for you.
QuillBot is the best AI Detector for people who don't need tons of words to be checked often. They are the best "Free" AI Detector I have seen and provide users with tons of other features.
While uploading my AI-generated content on their dashboard (no login required!), they quickly shared the results of the test. Along with my newsletter issue.

They were able to detect both without even having to log in.
QuillBot is also on every device, so it's a great tool to have if you need to check if AI content is created or not.

They also have tons of free other tools on their website, allowing you to get lots done without ever having to pay. But their paid plan isn't that bad and really an affordable option. It also allows you to use all of the different apps above on all different devices.

Prices start at $8/month (paid yearly) and it gives you unlimited paraphrasing, unlimited AI detectors, custom summaries, and advanced grammar recommendations.
QuillBot is a cheaper alternative to all the other ones on this list and also has the biggest "free plan". Even though while looking on their site they don't share the exact amount of AI Detection they allow on free plans, it seems to be quite big.
Plus, not having to log in to check is a very nice feature. Others don't show you results till you have logged in, whereas QuillBot just tells you everything right away. You will get more in results if you are a paid user, like customized summaries we mentioned above.
They cover all the big name models like Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini but may lack detecting from other models.
ZeroGPT is on this list because it's a recommended Free Tool by many and I was interested to see how my two forms of text were gonna stack up against others on the list.
They do have paid plans starting at $7.99/month, but with all the ads on the page when doing the free tests and the results I got from my test, I wouldn't recommend it. They are good for a free tool to quickly check, but in terms of using their models for everything, I wouldn't suggest it.
First, you can see the results from my newsletter issue:

It detected 18% AI-generated content… While every other service so far has said 100% human. So you can see with just this one test why users say there is a lot of false positives.
That email was written 100% by me.
Now let's take a look at the AI-Generated Content using Claude Opus 4.1 (the best AI writing tool for blog creation):

Now if you recall, the other ones on this list said that my AI-generated content was 100% AI-generated, whereas ZeroGPT didn't. It only gave it a 90.41%, but we know it's 100% AI-generated.
So again, as mentioned above, ZeroGPT is a good alternative to QuillBot or just another site if you need some quick analysis without having to log in/sign up. But if you are using this at scale, I'd look at other options.
All tools are not created equal. If you are looking for the best AI detectors, you can really choose between any of the premium ones like CopyLeaks, Winston, and QuillBot.
If I was working at an enterprise company, I'd pick CopyLeaks. They have the best detection and tons of extra features with an easy-to-use API connection. Personal Use? I'd download QuillBot and use it on my phone, laptop, desktop, etc. It has good pricing and is very accurate when detecting AI.
If you just need a quick check, I'd still use QuillBot as the free tier is very generous. I'd also look into GPTZero as they offer a 7-day free trial allowing up to 300k words to be checked. If you need more free credits, you can use ZeroGPT.
